4 Kpop Girl Groups You Need To Know

Updated: Oct 14, 2022

As Kpop becomes more and more popular worldwide, there are certain named that are becoming more and more recognizable.

While BTS, Stray Kids, Ateez, and more come to mind when thinking of male groups, names associated with girl groups include Black Pink, Twice, and Red Velvet. However, there are a few lesser known girl groups that should be in everyones playlist.

4 - Purple Kiss

Purple Kiss is a 7-member girl group that debuted on March 15, 2021. They are a group under RBW Entertainment, the same company that debuted Mamamoo, OneUs, OneWe, and more.

These girls debuted with a "dark" concept, but it is unlike most other groups in Kpop. Instead of releasing music with overtly sexy choreography and revealing clothes, Purple Kiss centers most of their music videos around Halloween style monsters and ghouls.

The group's song Zombie portrays this perfectly by setting the music video in a diner specifically catering towards a zombie's appetite. The choreography for the song also includes moves that reflect the way a zombie would walk or move.

On top of having a very fun and unique concept, the group is full of talented vocalists, rappers, and dancers. Purple Kiss is a very talented group with extremely catchy music. They are definitely worth checking out.

3 - Le Sserrafim

Although Le Sserrafim faced a lot of controversy right after debut, this 5 member group took the Kpop world by storm with their debut song Fearless. Even though the group debuted in May of 2022, the music video has already reached almost 113 million views.

One of the things that sets this group apart is the key in which they chose to record their debut song. Most Kpop girl groups, and even some boy groups, tend to keep their music in high octaves. Le Sserrafim broke the mold with their first title track.

There is also a ton of potential within the group. The members consist of a trained opera singer, a professional ballerina, and member Huh Yun Jin wrote and recorded her own song Raise y_our glass only three months after debut.

Coming from a company as big as HYBE, Le Sserrafim has the potential to make it big.

2 - 3YE

3YE is actually the oldest group on this list. Debuting in 2019, this 3 member group is under GH Entertainment. Each member is also a part of the company's co-ed project group 777.

This group is the epitome of girl power. Their choreographies are sharp and controlled. They ground their performances in power rather than fluidity or sensuality. This leads to extremely confident performances.

The three members are also talented vocalists. By having such a small number of members, 3YE is able to individually showcase the member's abilities. Although their releases follow no consistent timeline, 3YE's comebacks always pack a punch.

If you're a fan of strong choreographies and women that radiate confidence, you should be running to your favorite streaming service to check out 3YE.

1 - Billlie

As someone who struggled with finding girl groups to listen to when I first became a fan of Kpop, I can confidently say that I have been a fan of Billlie since their debut in November of 2021 with Ring X Ring.

This 7 member group debuted under SM Entertainment's sub-label Music Story, and they have continued with the company's reputation for releasing experimental music. Having had 3 official EP releases since debut, no two EPs sound the same.

The first EP, Billage of Perception: Chapter One is very experimental with lots of rhythm breaks and alarm - like inclusions. The second EP, The Collective Soul and Unconscious: Chapter One is very bass and percussion heavy.

Billlie's latest release, Billage of Perception: Chapter Two is a rock sound that has attracted fans like never before. After about three weeks since the release, the music video for EP's title track 'RING Ma Bell already has 26 million views on Youtube.

The group continues to impress and surprise with every comeback. This is not a group that you will regret becoming a fan of, but they are a group that you'll regret not listening to sooner.

Each group is unique and talented in their own ways. We can't wait to see what the future has in store for all of these girls!
