Official Privacy and Respect of Artists Statement

In light of recent events within the Kpop community, FanTalk felt as though it was important to release our beliefs and policies surrounding the artists whose media we consume and discuss.

Although we exist to create a space for fans to enjoy media surrounding different artists, we do not feel as though fan satisfaction is more important than the protection of those in the entertainment industry we cover.

Unless an artist specifically releases details of their lives, there is no need for that information to be shared. Within this, only the information the artist shares should be consumed by the public. There is no need for individuals to go out of their way, and behind an artist's back, to find further information.

Similarly, an artist's privacy should always be respected. Whatever an artist does not personally share is immediately perceived, by FanTalk, as classified information.

An artist always has the right to refuse publicity, especially if they are not actively promoting within the industry at the time of recognition.

Fans of all artists should respect the personal and private lives of all individuals involved. This includes family and friends of the artist, as well as the artist themselves. If any personal information regarding these individuals is leaked, please report and ignore the information.

Any phone numbers, housing information, social media, pictures, videos, or other private information regarding an artist, or someone that has association to an artist, should be protected and private.

Artists do not owe their fans anything. However, fans owe it to their artists to treat the idol, or celebrity, like a human being.

This includes:

  • Stopping the spread of personal information throughout Kpop fanbases

  • Not seeking out further information regarding an artist's siblings or other family members and friends

  • If a non-celebrity associate of an artist is public about their association, do not request information surrounding the artist

  • Respecting whatever boundaries an artist instills

  • Acknowledging and respecting their physical space if in the same area (this includes not invading their space at airports, vacation areas, meet-and-greet style gatherings, when the artist is out with any of their friends or family, or any other space)

  • Being content with the limited information you have about any artist's personal life

FanTalk respects and encourages any and all choices that celebrities make in an effort to keep themselves and their private lives safe.

We stand firm in the belief that the safety of an artist and their loved ones should always be the number one priority of any artist, at any time.

Thank you.
